On day 2, our original plan was to visit Atlantis the Palm in the morning to afternoon time and then move on to visit Dubai Garden Glow and Dinosaur Park in the evening.
Realising it will be a lot of walking and travelling from one corner of Dubai to another, we tweaked our plan and decided to go to Dubai Marina in the evening instead.
We largely underestimated the travel time from Bur Dubai to Atlantis the Palm which involved a short ride of a taxi to Bur Juman metro junction, then the metro red line from Bur Juman to Damac Properties, then tram to Palm Jumeirah and then finally a ride on the Palm Monorail.
Info: Individual Nol cards are required to travel by Dubai Metro. Silver Class card costs AED 25, that carries value of AED 19. The same card can be used to travel by bus, tram and water taxis. Kids under 5 travels for free.
The entire journey took around 2 hours as it involved considerable walking from metro to tram to monorail stations. Though most stations are interconnected, the walking is much more than what we anticipated.
Info: Free WiFi, with acceptable speed, is available at all the metro and tram stations but a local mobile number is required to complete the registration.
With adequate signboards and instructions, the tram and metro stations are not only user-friendly, they are aesthetically too very well constructed.
The monorail return ride costs AED 30 per person. Like Dubai Metro, the monorail too is driverless and the front seat provided a great view of Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis the Palm.
Tip: Views of Atlantis the Palm form monorail are perhaps the best. Better than what you get from the Boardwalk, in front of Atlantis the Palm.
We pre-booked tickets to The Lost Chambers Aquarium @ AED 270 for 3. The aquarium is based on a theme of underwater ruins of mythological Atlantis island. We traversed through passages and tunnels to explore some never seen and never heard of aquatic animals. The dark ambience and highly contrasting bright exhibit gave a cinematic experience.
Dark ambience means not so clear pictures unless, of course, you have a tripod.
After spending approx an hour in the aquarium, we spent some time on the promenade, opposing Atlantis the Palm, which is great for a leisurely stroll and some selfies.
After taking return ride via monorail, we took a tram to JBR 1 to reach Dubai Marina promenade surrounded by some opulent but seemingly sparsely occupied skyscrapers.
We inquired for dhow cruises and found a couple of them but discovered that they were fully booked so we went to Dubai Ferry ride operated by transport authority RTA.
The one hour ride started 6:30 PM at Dubai Marina and crossed Palm Jumeirah, went around Logo Island to finally return to the marina.
The ferry had comfortable air-conditioned sitting but we spent most of the time in the open area, at the back of the ferry, enjoying the panoramic night views of the Dubai Marina and cool breeze of the Perian Gulf.
Before heading back to the hotel, we had a great Italian dinner at Carluccio’s at Marina Mall. The Tiramisu was absolutely noteworthy, one of the best I have had lately.
We again took the tram and then metro to reach the hotel. We experienced the metro to be fully occupied but the trams were nearly empty with only a couple of other passengers apart from us and in our last ride from Dubai Marina, the 3 of us were the only passengers.
Relying on baby career instead of pram proved super exhaustive to us.
Tip: A pram would perhaps be the best bet if you are travelling with a child in Dubai.
