Craving wood-fired pizza on a lazy holiday, we decided to try Mad Doh – Sourdough Pizzeria & Bakes, a pure vegetarian spot we discovered through social media recommendations. Nestled inside the Kalidas Sports Complex in Mulund West, this restaurant is on the first floor, above Thyme & Whisk.
We arrived around 12:45 PM on a hot day, assuming the place might be non-air-conditioned as it featured open windows and wall-mounted fans. However, once we were seated, the staff pulled down automatic curtains over the large windows and switched on the AC, making it comfortable.
Ambience

Mad Doh offers a serene and inviting space, with its white color palette and airy design. Natural light flows through large windows, casting a gentle glow highlighting the restaurant’s minimalistic aesthetic. Basic yet comfortable chairs and sofas, crafted from light wood, add warmth to the simplicity of the décor. Tables are thoughtfully spaced to maintain a relaxed, open feel, ideal for diners to unwind and enjoy the experience.
Food
We started with a refreshing Guava Mojito and Classic Roasted Cheese Garlic Bread stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, and mozzarella, and served with garlic aioli. Although we expected a bread-like texture, the garlic bread resembled a mini pizza more. It tasted good, though, so we were happy with the recommendation.

In the main course, we planned to order the Pizza Ortolana (with toppings of pomodoro, zucchini, onion, black olives, and bell peppers) and spaghetti in pesto sauce. However, the server suggested ordering just the pizza first, which we did. The taste was good, but the garlic bread and pizza lacked the crisp texture we’d hoped for, with the bases turning out a bit doughy. They also didn’t provide any flavored oil or hot sauce by default, only offering plain olive oil upon request. We decided to skip the spaghetti to save room for dessert.

For dessert, we chose a classic Tiramisu, but after a lengthy wait, it arrived quite cold, overly sweet, and didn’t quite hit the mark for us.
Service
The service was seamless except for the wait for dessert but we felt the server was overstepping in many instances. For example, when Mihir inquired about the ‘Hazelnut Eyes’ mocktail, the server simply discouraged us from ordering it rather than explaining it. Similarly, when we asked about the Affogato Bar options, he suggested dessert instead, which we found a bit dismissive.
The experience took an odd turn when we requested the bill, as the server offered to remove the service charge if we tipped him directly. This was surprising and unusual for us.
Overall Impression
While the meal had enjoyable moments, it didn’t fully capture the authentic flavors we hoped for. Next time, we’d be interested in exploring other authentic pizzerias in town to experience a more genuine take on wood-fired pizza.
Ambiance: Aesthetically pleasing and airy.
Food: Not bad
Cleanliness: Needs a lot of improvement.
Service: A little overstepping
Value for money: What you pay is what you get
Overall:
