Pondicherry Diaries – Day 4: A Morning at Paradise Beach and An Evening at Promenade

We woke up early today because we were excited to visit the most beautiful and clean beach in Pondicherry, Paradise Beach. After a quick freshening up and a delicious breakfast, we started our journey to Chunnambar Boat House around 8 a.m., which was about 10 kilometers from our hotel. Surprisingly, we reached there before the ticket windows opened. The friendly security guard told us to wait until 9 a.m. for entry tickets. There was ample paid parking space, and washrooms were available behind the ticket window.

Once we got our entry tickets, we made our way to the point where boats take passengers to the beach. There’s another ticket window where we purchased tickets for a boat ride. The first ride departs around 9:30 a.m. We took some pictures and explored the premises while waiting. As more people arrived, we hopped on a boat for a scenic ride through the backwaters to Paradise Beach.

The boat ride was smooth, and we were the first to set foot on the white sandy shore. Despite the cloudy day, the sun peeking through the clouds created a wonderful sight. We played in the sand, walked in the waves, took pictures, and collected various seashells. It felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. Local people on the boat were setting up refreshment stalls. After spending a delightful 2 hours, we took a boat back to the Chunnambar Boat House.

Lunch at Bread and Chocolate

From there, we decided to have an early lunch at ‘Bread and Chocolate’ in White Town. It’s a two-story building with three food joints. We chose the Terrace Cafe on the first floor, enjoying the cloudy and windy day. We ordered some of their best items, and although a few were unavailable, we had a satisfying meal. We also visited a bakery on the ground floor, buying chocolates and a slice of cake. After a good meal, we headed back to the hotel for some rest, recharging ourselves for our last evening in this colorful town.

Evening at the Promenade

Our first stop was the Promenade, and we walked through it from the starting point. After spending an evening there, the rain started drizzling, prompting us to find a nice restaurant.

Delhiwala 6

Yuven wanted Chinese food, so we went to Delhiwala6 restaurant on the same premises as ‘Bread and Chocolate.’ We arrived a bit early, and they opened at 7:30 p.m. We chose a window seat, enjoying the pouring rain. We had Manchurian, Hakka noodles, fried rice, and soft drinks.

After dinner, we went to get dessert at Koromandal Cafe. It was full, so we decided to pick a few desserts to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary at midnight.

Our time in Pondicherry was wonderful, and we are already thinking about revisiting it in the future. Next, our plan is to spend a day in Chennai. Stay tuned for the next day’s adventure.
