Delhi, the bustling capital city of India, is a melting pot of cultures, spirituality, and architectural wonders. In this blog post, we will take you on a journey to the serene Lotus Temple and the magnificent Qutub Minar. Additionally, we will explore the organized development and charm of Gurgaon, where we spent quality time with our loved ones.
Lotus Temple: A Haven of Tranquility
After enjoying a refreshing breakfast at our hotel, we embarked on a soul-soothing adventure to the exquisite Lotus Temple. As we entered the temple premises, we were immediately struck by its unique and captivating architecture, which resembles a blooming lotus flower. This Bahá’í House of Worship is open to people of all religions, offering a serene and peaceful atmosphere for meditation and reflection. The pristine gardens surrounding the temple, along with the tranquil pools, further enhanced the sense of tranquility. Inside, we found solace in the silence and embraced the opportunity for introspection and spiritual rejuvenation. As it was a Sunday morning, we didn’t face much traffic while reaching there by cab, although it was quite crowded even though we arrived around 10 in the morning. There is an information center exactly opposite the Lotus Temple on the same premises, where you can learn about the Bahá’í faith and how the Lotus Temple was built.
The temple is open every day of the week except Monday. The opening time (9:30 a.m.) remains the same throughout the year, but the closing time changes in the winter season. Taking photos or videos and talking are not allowed inside the hall. Our visit to the temple took approximately 2 hours to complete.
Kalkaji Mataji Temple: Divine Grace Across the Lotus Temple Situated opposite the Lotus Temple, the Kalkaji Mataji Temple stood as a divine presence, beckoning us with its colorful facade and intricate artwork. However, the sight of a long queue of devotees awaiting entry dissuaded us from venturing inside. Nevertheless, the temple exudes a strong spiritual aura, attracting devotees seeking blessings and solace from the revered goddess. The architectural splendor of the temple exterior served as a testament to the deep-rooted faith and devotion in the hearts of the people.
Qutub Minar: A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Undeterred by our earlier experience, we set out to explore another architectural marvel in Delhi—the iconic Qutub Minar. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stands tall as a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of the region. The towering minaret, reaching a height of 73 meters (240 feet), is adorned with intricate carvings and inscriptions. As we walked around the complex, we marveled at the historical significance and architectural brilliance of the Qutub Minar, which dates back to the 12th century. It truly is a sight to behold.
To avoid waiting in line at the ticket window, we booked our entry tickets online, and believe me, there was still a long queue. Bookings can be made at https://asi.payumoney.com/select/1. You need to select one of the slots (Forenoon – till 12:00, Afternoon – till 6:00, Evening – till 9:00), and the fee for adults is only 35 rupees, while kids can enter for free. You can also hire a guide on-site to learn about the rich history behind the monument. We spent around 1 hour at this heritage site.
The Iron Pillar
The Iron Pillar, located on the same premises, is an ancient marvel that stands as a testament to India’s rich history. This remarkable pillar, standing at a height of approximately 7.2 meters (23.6 feet) with a weight of around 6 tons, dates back to the 4th century AD. The pillar bears inscriptions in the Sanskrit language, providing valuable insights into the Gupta dynasty that ruled the region during that era.
What makes this pillar truly extraordinary is its remarkable resistance to rust and corrosion despite centuries of exposure to the elements.
The Iron Pillar is a symbol of India’s advanced metallurgical prowess in ancient times and continues to intrigue scientists and historians alike. It stands as a remarkable historical artifact, showcasing the engineering and metallurgical achievements of ancient India.
Gurugram: A Testament to Organized Development
In the afternoon, we ventured into the neighboring city of Gurgaon, a thriving hub of business and modern infrastructure. The city’s meticulous planning and organized development were evident as we navigated through its well-maintained roads and witnessed the towering skyscrapers. Gurgaon has emerged as a bustling metropolis, attracting global corporations and offering a comfortable lifestyle to its residents. The city’s vibrant atmosphere, coupled with its numerous shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment centers, showcases the rapid growth and development that has taken place.
