Delhi – Agra – Amritsar: Day 3 – A Day trip to Agra

Introduction:
Agra, a city steeped in history and romance, is home to two iconic architectural wondersโ€”the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. Join us on a journey as we explore the grandeur of these magnificent structures, delving into their rich history and experiencing their timeless beauty. In this blog post, we will take you through the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal and the architectural marvels of the Red Fort in Agra.

The Crown Jewel of India: Taj Mahal
Our visit to Agra had one purposeโ€”to witness the Taj Mahal, a wonder of India that had captivated our son Yuven. Combining Delhi and Amritsar with this itinerary, we eagerly embarked on our journey. With the first rays of sunlight, we reached Agra, ready to behold the epitome of love and architectural brilliance. As we approached the breathtaking Taj Mahal, leaving us in awe of its grandeur, we couldn’t help but be amazed by its beauty.

We had booked our tickets online in advance. One ticket allowed us to enter the premises of the Taj Mahal, while the other granted access to the main mausoleum. The cost of the premises ticket was Rs. 50 per person, and children up to the age of 15 could enter for free. The main mausoleum ticket cost Rs. 200 per person. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, and the visiting hours are in line with the sunrise and sunset. On normal days, it opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset. For full moon days, there are separate visiting hours and entry fees. Complete details can be found at https://www.tajmahal.gov.in/.

The intricate carvings and delicate inlays on the white marble mausoleum mesmerized us as we approached it. The symmetrical structure with elegant domes and minarets spoke volumes about the craftsmanship of the Mughal era. Despite the sweltering heat, we strolled through the beautiful gardens surrounding the Taj, marveling at the fountains and meticulously manicured lawns.

To capture the essence of our visit, we hired a photographer who expertly framed our moments of admiration against the backdrop of this architectural masterpiece. Inside the Taj, we found solace sitting by the banks of the Yamuna River, embracing the serene ambiance that permeated the air. It was a truly transcendent experience, immersing ourselves in the timeless beauty and romantic aura of the Taj Mahal.

After visiting the Taj Mahal, we satisfied our hunger with lunch at the Taj restaurant located behind the ticket counter at the west gate. Although the options were limited, it was a minimalistic meal. To return to the parking area, we opted for an electric buggy ride.

The Majestic Red Fort: A Symbol of Power and Resilience
Our plan to visit the majestic Red Fort after the Taj Mahal was hindered by unexpected rainfall. Nevertheless, we couldn’t overlook the historical significance and architectural grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Red Fort, also known as Agra Fort, served as the residence and seat of power for the Mughal emperors. Its imposing red sandstone walls and intricate palaces stand as a testament to the empire’s opulence and architectural finesse. Although we couldn’t explore the fort’s interior on this visit, we admired its colossal structure from a distance, imagining the stories of valor and resilience that echoed within its walls. The Red Fort continues to be an emblem of India’s rich history and is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts.

As we returned to Delhi, we reminisced about the day’s experiences over a delightful dinner at the Aerocity Social. Savoring potent drinks and sumptuous dishes, we added another memorable chapter to our journey.
