During our recent family trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, I stayed at the Little Rock Marriott, a towering downtown hotel overlooking the Arkansas River. On paper, it checked many boxesโcentral location, river views, and direct access to Riverfront Park.
But after spending three nights here, I realized that while the views were memorable, some unexpected drawbacks – especially parking and diningโmade me question whether Iโd choose this hotel again. Hereโs my honest, experience-based review to help you decide if the Little Rock Marriott is right for your stay.
Downtown Little Rock Location: Walkable & Convenient
One of the biggest advantages of the Little Rock Marriott is its location. Situated in downtown, the hotel is roughly a 10โ15 minute drive from the airport and puts you within walking distance of several popular attractions.
From the hotel, we could easily walk to:
- River Market
- Museum of Discovery
- Historic Arkansas Museum
- Old State House Museum
- Several great local restaurants and food joints
The hotel also offers direct access to Riverfront Park, which is a huge plusโespecially if you enjoy evening walks or traveling with family.
First Impressions: A Grand Convention-Style Hotel
The Little Rock Marriott is a large, 14-story hotel that also doubles as a convention and conference center. As a result, it feels more corporate and event-focused rather than boutique or leisure-oriented.
We arrived around 1 PM for our 3-night stay in a Guest Room. During check-in, I requested an upgrade to a river-facing room on a higher floor, and I was pleasantly surprised when the staff happily accommodated the request. We had to wait about 10 minutes for the room to be ready, but overall, the check-in process was smooth and efficient.
River View Rooms: The Best Part of the Stay

We were assigned Room 1217 on the 12th floor, and while the room itself was of typical Marriott size with standard amenities, the Arkansas River view was the real showstopper.

From our window, we could see:
- The Arkansas River, flowing peacefully
- Scenic views of North Little Rock
- Stunning colors during sunrise and sunset (golden hours)
If youโre visiting around Independence Day, this hotel could be a great option for watching the 4th of July fireworks from your room.
No Buffet Breakfast: A Surprising Miss
One surprising downside of the Little Rock Marriott is the lack of a daily buffet breakfast, which is something many travelersโincluding familiesโexpect from a full-service Marriott hotel.
Your breakfast options are limited to:
- The in-house Starbucks
- Heritage Grill, the hotelโs restaurant
For Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above, Club Marriott access is provided, which helpsโbut for everyone else, the breakfast situation is inconvenient.
On the positive side, the Heritage Grill does offer:
- Afternoon happy hours
- Late evening wine hours
Valet Parking Woes: Expensive and Inconvenient
Hands down, the valet parking experience was the biggest drawback of our stay.
Key issues:
- Compulsory valet parking
- Cost: US$30 per day, which feels excessive for Little Rock
- They recommend you request your car about 20 minutes in advance.
For any impromptu plans or quick outings, this system becomes extremely frustrating. If youโre traveling with a car and value flexibility, this alone can significantly impact your experience.
On a positive note, the hotel does provide a shuttle service to the airport, which is helpful if youโre not driving.
Service, Comfort, and Maintenance Concerns
The staff deserves praiseโeveryone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which made the stay more pleasant.
However, a few comfort and maintenance issues stood out:
- The twin beds felt quite small, especially for family travel
- Visible wear and tear, indicating the hotel is showing its age
- Our bathroom did not have an exhaust fan, causing the room to get foggy and warm after showers
These are small things individually, but together they detract from the overall experience.
Final Verdict: Who Is the Little Rock Marriott Best For?
While the Little Rock Marriott excels in location and river views, it ultimately feels better suited for conference attendees than leisure travelers. The lack of a buffet breakfast, aging rooms, and especially the costly and time-consuming valet parking significantly impacted our stay.
If youโre attending an event at the convention center and donโt plan to drive much, this hotel may work well. But for families or road-trippers exploring Little Rock, there are likely better-value options downtown. For me, the beautiful river views alone arenโt enough to bring me back.
